Iain has a long history with Sybarite, having studied with Simon Mitchell at university and worked alongside Simon and Torquil whilst they honed their craft at Future Systems.
Iain’s early passion for model making and the ability to bring concepts to reality for clients, led him naturally into visualisation.
Iain was instrumental in the establishment of Sybarite as specialist retail architects. He worked with niche London brands such as Cox & Power and Guys & Dolls for the Ettedgui family, through to the large-scale prestigious competition which awarded Sybarite with the conversion of Shin Kong Place mall into SKP Beijing – a luxury department store.
Currently, Iain oversees all technical aspects of Sybarite design, advising on drawings from detailing to construction and giving direction on specific retail furniture and VM specifications.
Other retail clients have included Stella McCartney Ltd, Selfridges and Whistles, along with a wealth of residential projects.
Iain has developed a deep interest in sustainable building practices and materials. He is in the midst of his own renovation of an old stone cottage with the aim of achieving net zero. Balancing the importance of good insulation values whilst maintaining the original aesthetic beauty of an old building, maintaining breathability, a high level of air tightness and incorporating a modern mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery and a ground source heat pump has been a new challenge.
