RIMOWA often speaks about travelling well. It’s a simple phrase, but one that extends far beyond the suitcase itself. To travel well isn’t simply to own better luggage; it’s to move through the world with greater ease, purpose and intention.
Yet the experience of departure rarely reflects that philosophy. We arrive carrying coats, bags, laptops and passports, only to spend the next hour balancing them between chairs, tables and the floor. Airports are designed around processing people efficiently, yet the individual experience still feels remarkably fragmented.
This thinking informed my sketch for this issue: The Personal Suite. Rather than reimagining the suitcase, it explores how RIMOWA’s philosophy might extend into the airport lounge itself. A dedicated environment where every object has a considered place, allowing travellers to organise, work, unwind and prepare before boarding.
Like RIMOWA’s products, every element serves a purpose. Nothing is added without a purpose. Every decision is functional, considered and quietly luxurious.
Perhaps purposeful luxury isn’t about carrying less or owning more, but removing the small frictions that stand between us and the journey ahead.
