Fenwick
Sybarite collaborated with Fenwick, the renowned British department store on a significant project aimed at revitalising and transforming the brand’s iconic flagship store in Newcastle. The store, which originally opened its doors in 1882, holds a special place in the history of town centre and has been a beloved family business for generations.
Sybarite were involved at the outset with the project’s overall scope which encompassed a complete restructuring of the interior architecture, a refresh of the site’s facades and entrances, the integration of a cohesive and sophisticated house style and comprehensive brand guidelines.
The focus of this transformation was to embrace luxury collaborations and to facilitate a brand evolution for the ‘New Fenwick,’ showcasing cultural relevance, brand authenticity, and its distinct “Brilliantly British” identity.
Throughout the renovation process, preserving the site’s multigenerational appeal and honouring its rich history remained central objectives. By doing so, the project highlighted Fenwick’s core values, which encompass exceptional hospitality, a sense of belonging, individuality, and unwavering dedication to customer care.
Ultimately, Fenwick Newcastle’s refresh plays a crucial role in the town centre’s rebirth, positioning the store not just as a luxury department store but as the ultimate luxury destination in the North, catering to a diverse audience and reflecting the spirit of modern-day luxury retail.
The Newcastle Beauty Hall is the largest beauty hall outside of London spanning 26,000 square feet and housing more than 160 brands. Our work involved the beauty hall, the ground floor level and the exterior facades. The overarching concept was to achieve greater connection and cohesion throughout and to bring daylight back into the Beauty Hall and ground floor via Northumberland Street by opening up the rear window displays. The newly reimagined space offers an innovative in-store shopping experience, featuring two new enlarged atriums, 56 foot of facade windows looking out onto Northumberland Street, over 1,600 square feet of terrazzo flooring, and a 50-foot-long fragrance bar.
The beauty hall showcases make-up, skincare, contemporary and couture beauty, niche and prestige fragrance, hair, nails, brows and skincare services, housing 163 brands, including 38 fragrance brands.
The new design offers customers a “shopping experience to meet all their beauty needs,” with 23 new beauty counters and an innovative fragrance edit concept. Beyond products, the beauty hall also features a curated menu of pampering services, including manicures, blow-drys, brow shaping, lash extensions, facials and make-up appointments, and five beauty treatment rooms.
